Coach Dwight is Patriot Jiu-Jitsu’s owner and head instructor. He is a US Marine Corps infantry veteran and lifelong martial artist, with nearly 15 years of combat martial arts including Judo, Vinh Xuan Kung Fu, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. He also spent 5 years playing club soccer and professional basketball under the VBF(Vietnam Basketball Federation). He lives with his wife and four young children in Parowan, Utah. As an athletic development coach for athletes of all ages at Team Hargett in La Quinta, California, his passion for developing strength, movement and martial arts practice is contagious and will bring out the athlete in every one of his students.
Coach Dwight is a brown belt competitor at Atos Jiu-Jitsu under Professor James Nival of Atos Las Vegas. His competition highlights include a gold medal at a national competition and a bronze at the Pan American World Championship stage. His time preparing himself and others for competition and self defense practice has a created a powerful drive for teaching kids the important lessons he’s learned through his journey in martial arts. He believes that coaching children in movement, mindset and martial arts characteristics to be one of the highest callings a coach can have. “Children are our future.” He says, “If we care about changing the future, it starts with our children.” He is also the founder of the “Winter Ready Kids Camp”, a program that teaches important self reliance skills necessary for athletic development and nutrition, wilderness survival and navigation, self-aid and buddy aid, as well as self defense and counter-bullying. He hopes that all kids who feel like they are underdogs in any situation will come in a join our martial arts family. Coach Dwight and his team of coaches are always ready and willing to serve.
